Brad Doggett Brings Acoustic Soul to a New Level

So on my hunt for the next great cover, I came across Virginia's own Brad Doggett. Now aside from being absolutely adorable, he's got an amazing voice and strumming skills to boot. So why not end this cover Wednesday marathon (in honor of New Year's Eve) with a rising YouTube star? You never know, you might end up seeing him on bigger screens (or stages) in '09.

"Take a Bow" originally by Rihanna

Wyclef Jean's "Sweetest Girl Remix"

"Nice and Slow" originally by Usher

An unplugged version of Ne-Yo's "Go On Girl"

"Don't Go Away" originally by Oasis

"Bittersweet Symphony orginally by The Verve

Arianna Gives Beyonce a Run for Her Money

Fine, this isn't your typical cover. But little Miss Arianna is hitting every piece of choreography Beyonce throws down. So just this once, let's highlight covers of the dance. Besides she's too cute to ignore.

Alexandra Burke Woos Brits with 'Hallelujah'

Recent X Factor winner Alexandra Burke wowed audiences with her powerful cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and also smashes the singles chart formally held by fellow winner Leona Lewis and her version of "A Moment Like This." Now the question is will she follow in Leona's footsteps and make waves across the Atlantic as the "Bleeding Heart" songbird did? I guess time will tell. And as for Leona, she's got another hit on her hands topping the charts with yet another cover--Snow Patrol's "Run."

Merry Christmas with Martin

Boys Like Girls' frontman Martin Johnson started his own blog and spreads the Christmas cheer with an acoustic cover of "White Christmas."

And this lovely cover of "First Noel" he did with Brent Mulligan -- listen to these two high-pitched voices go.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope you open tons of presents, drink lots of hot cocoa or cider and sing loads of carols.

Demi Tells It Like It Is

In her new single, "La La Land," Disney breakout Demi Lovato mocks the typical over-the-top superstar ways of today's celebs and does it with some smart sass. And regardless of her squeaky-clean-Mickey-Mouse image, this girl has got one set of pipes and an edge all her own.

Lily Puts Her Spin on 'Womanizer'

She's already added some girly flair to "Oh My God" by the Kaiser Chiefs, but Lily Allen has done it again with Britney's "Womanizer". A more acoustic sound and Lily's distinct British-laced voice, this version may not be the track that'll get you bumping in the club but still sounds pretty good.

Kanye's Love Letdown on SNL

As great as Kanye's musical evolution is, most of us were disappointed to see such poor performance on SNL last night. Perhaps he's performed it so much that he just couldn't hack it anymore, or maybe Kanye's got a cold. Either way, it's a great song but hopefully Kanye can get his vocal chords up to par again.

Arctic Monkeys Play Amy and Casablancas

These may not be the freshest covers, but the Arctic Monkeys do a pretty good job on them.

"You Know I'm No Good" - originally by Amy Winehouse

SNL Has Done it Again

With the success of last year's "Dick in a Box", the Lonely Island boys have done it again with this digital short. And of course, JT made a cameo in this one, too. But as good as this video was, not too sure it'll beat this skit with Beyonce, Justin and Paul Rudd.

What does Lily Allen Fear?

Originally titled "I Don't Know," "The Fear" will be the first single off Lily Allen's sophomore effort, It's Not Me It's You out in Feb. 2009.

She also recently made some noise when she blasted society's obsession with celebrity culture and said "celebrity culture is very healthy for young people at all."

Maybe so, but it's probably one addiction many people may never seek out help for.

Island Def Jam Drops Heavy Hitters on First-Time Monday Release

(CREDIT)

For the first time ever, Island Def Jam has decided to release albums on a Monday opposed to the typical Tuesday release dates.

The Killers' Day & Age, Kanye West's 808s & Heartbreak and Ludacris' Theater of the Mind will be released on Monday, Nov. 24, in both physical and digital platforms. With the hype of the three albums and the strength (at least we hope) of post-Thanksgiving shopping, the record label wanted to give this a try in hopes of blowing the competition out of the water.

Not too sure if this plan will work, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Beatles Game is a Go But Won't Be Another 'Rock Band'

As of 10 a.m. this morning, MTV Networks, Apple Corps Ltd. and Harmonix (the game developer behind Rock Band) announced they will be working on an interactive music video game featuring The Beatles, but will not be another Rock Band.

Details were few and far between, but what we do know is that it'll take the gamer on an interactive journey through the band's musical career. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison will participate in the creative process and formation of the game. They hope to release it in late '09, and the game remains nameless as of right now. The companies also didn't reveal if the game would be compatible with the current Rock Band set-up (guitar, mic and drum kit).

For more info on the deal, read this.

No details have been released about the agreement. But since there have been talks between the two companies for some time now, we may be seeing gamers rock out Beatles-style in the near future

Inside the Diesel XXX Party

Brooklyn's Pier 13 was a three-ring circus (literally) last night when Diesel celebrated its 30th birthday. Filled with celebs, musicians, artists, fashionistas and locals, the sounds were blasting through the speakers and the liquor was flowing. Rope acrobats and other sideshow entertainment added to the fun, but Diesel didn't stop there. Aside from performing their own sets, Hot Chip shared the stage with Chaka Kahn, T.I. collaborated with MIA and Franz Ferdinand and MIA and N*E*R*D grooved to their own addictive beats. It was so explosive that the NYC Fire Department also made an appearance.

UK import Hot Chip bring their experimental electronic dance pop sound to Dumbo.

Chaka Kahn joins the guys onstage and added flair to the set.
She gets every lady on her feet with "I'm Ever Woman".

T.I. brings 'em out.

Franz Ferdinand back T.I. up on "Live Your Life".
The firemen stopped the party for a bit and did some crowd control.
But no worries the Scots rocked their set soon after.
And the crowd surfing begins...

MIA drives the crowd mad—looks like she came out of retirement, even for at least one night.
The beat's so infectious she can't help but shake her bump.
N*E*R*D join the fun on stage.
Pharrell's appearance also gets the crowd jumping.

No one could avoid taking pics on the purple carpet.

Bono's New Broadway Effort Costs Millions

Spider-Man, the new Broadway show that U2 frontman Bono is scoring, is currently working on a budget of $40 million — making it most expensive theater production in history, according to reports. And the buck doesn't stop there, it'll cost $1 million to put on each week. The budget will hopefully be lowered to $35 million but will take 8,000 years for it to actually break even, the New York Post reported today.

The show's director is Julie Taymor (known for Across the Univers and the musical version of The Lion King) and will open next year.
