Heidi Montag is really determined to get her music out there. And with this new track, "Fashion", I'm not too sure she'll be grabbing platinum status anytime soon. However it is definitely a song giving at least one listen to — even if it leaves you shaking your head and wondering, "What was she thinking?"

Cover Wednesday: Acappella Edition
What do you think of when you hear acappella? Maybe this?
Well, acappella has been big on college campuses for a while now. And they're not just diving into those old school doo wop tunes; many groups have been tapping the pop-stream for some interesting selections. Here are just a few.
Now you may have heard this song on The O.C. season 2 finale or even the SNL Digital Short. But UVA's Virginia Gentlemen took Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek and gave it their own smooth twist. Want more? Listen to JT's LoveStoned.
Moving north, NYU's Mass Transit has been known to entertain their audiences with not only their voices but also their interesting dance sequences. Look as they tap their inner Chris Brown with Kiss Kiss. Enjoyed that? Try out their version of Miley Cyrus' See You Again.
Traveling further up, we make our may to Cornell's Chordials, who not only like to perform the traditional stuff but also like to play with what's new like The City is at War by Cobra Starship. Haven't had enough? Here's their rendition of You are the One by Shiny Toy Guns.

Keira Knightley Sings in New Film
In her new film, The Edge of Love (out now in the UK), Keira Knightley exercises her vocal chords as Vera Phillips and sings at least two songs in the film. And yes, this is really her voice. Not too sure if/when this will come out in the U.S., but her other film The Duchess releases in September.

Amy Winehouse Diagnosed with Emphysema
After her fainting spell on June 16, doctors weren't too sure what has happened to Amy Winehouse. Finding an irregular heartbeat, doctors mulled over trying to find out what she's got, including testing her for TB (which came out negative). But after all the tests, she's finally been diagnosed with emphysema. It's a progressive disease that causes its sufferers to experience difficulties in breathing. In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Amy's dad, Mitch Winehouse, he fears his daughter will end up in a wheelchair and hooked up to an oxygen tank if she doesn't stop her smoking and cocaine use. Let's hope after all of this, Miss Winehouse will get her act together once and for all, especially since she's got one set of amazing pipes.
Sneak Peak: Lily Allen's New Song
Lily Allen is back in the studio working on her follow up to her '06 debut, Alright Still. And it looks like she may be taking risks on this sophomore effort. "Guess Who Batman?" takes a jab at the British National Party (ok more like a blow to them. At first it was written about the BNP, but "this issue has become relevant pretty much everywhere," Allen writes on posted on her MySpace blog. "we are the youth , we can make coolness for our future , its up to us . go green and hate hate." Masked behind an upbeat light pop beat, the heavier lyrics sound so much prettier than they really are. It's an interesting take on the passive aggressive approach. Perhaps "Guess Who Batman?" could be her next hit? Give it alisten on Lily Allen's MySpace.
NIght at the Museum
Spend a night listening to Talib Kweli, Pete Rock, Buckshot and a special guest at NYC's Museum of Natural History. Only $20, you can view the latest in visual art, groove to the hot beats and enjoy the stocked bar. How could you go wrong with this one?
Low on cash? You can also catch Talib Kweli on Wednesday, June 25, at the Apple Store in Soho (on Prince Street) for a live performance. Playing his new and old material, the show is free and starts at 6 p.m. But I'd arrive really early to secure a spot in the crowd.

When Cute Boys Pick Up Guitars
Last Thursday (June 19), I got to catch show featuring singer-songwriter Phil Bensen and pop/rock band Sparky's Flaw at Maxwell's in Hoboken. Walking into the small Jersey venue, I wasn't too sure what to expect.
As Phil Bensen walked on stage, you can feel the small crowd of teen/tween girls, who came to see him that night, silently blushing and giggling. Scratching your head as you look at this familiar face? Well, if you're a fan of a popular band of brothers by the name of Jonas, he's opened for them. (Enter high pitched screams here...) The Jersey native kicked off his set with a sweet acoustic solo and set the mood for chill show. Moving with a swagger that he refers to as "the white man sway," Bensen's music is light on the ears but has a presence that resonates with you. Songs like "A Little Respect" show off his Motown/blusey influences and give a different dynamic to this young musician. His smooth voice and even more fluid falsetto are reminiscent of Jason Mraz, and that's definitely not a bad thing.
"Bruised" has a nice pop feel to the strong, and it's melody has elements that sound a bit like the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" — a song he's been known to cover at his shows, including this one. And you know how I love covers. After playing a fun set with his band, Bensen went back to playing solo — taking requests from the crowd. Taking a fan's immediate and very enthusiastic request, he played "Paper Airplanes", a ballad that obviously made all the girls swoon. But what made it better was the nice transition into a quick rendition of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Phil Bensen is not only a charismatic performer with a short list of jokes. His free-flowing music and effortless voice bring a smile to your face.
Although I didn't catch Bensen at this year's Bamboozle, I did see Virginia-based Sparky's Flaw. After catching Red Jumpsuit Apparatus at one stage, I floated over to one of the smaller stages where I found a band who'd probably be one of my favorite finds of the year.
Sparky's Flaw may play pop music, but they're not synchronized choreography, coordinating outfits and oozing cheesy lyrics. They write the songs and play the music — and good music at that. Sparky's Flaw sounds like a hybrid of some of today's popular bands like The Fray and Maroon 5. And although there is a commonality this band shares with some of their influences, Sparky's Flaw take pop/rock and make it their own whether its Kit French's sax skills or Will Anderson's soothing yet edgy vocals. For me, what usually makes an amazing performance is if a band is able to sound even better live than on the recording, and this band does just that. "Words Meet Heartbeats" was already a favorite of mine, but seeing (and hearing) the fusion of the eerie synth in the beginning welding with uptempo beat and harmony of voices made the song an even memorable one. That can also be said about "Under Control", which has undertones of Maroon 5 — not necessarily a bad thing.
What makes the band even more enjoyable to watch is that they're all so comfortable onstage — as if you're sitting in on a jam session. The band ended their set with "New Year", an upbeat track where the guys get to rock out. Watching them play this song shows just how much fun Sparky's Flaw has on stage. There's a sheer genuine vibe that emits from each one of them and together as a band. And even though there was a blip during "New Year", the guys took it like pros and played as if nothing happened.
If it hasn't hit you yet from the the headline, these guys are definitely easy on the eyes. But it's not all about a pretty face. And for Phil Bensen and Sparky's Flaw, they're definitely more than just eye candy, they're great musicians who create music that leaves you wanting more.
Both Phil Bensen and Sparky's Flaw will be playing NYC's Knitting Factory on Wednesday, June 25. Visit TicketWeb to grab your tix.

Why Musicals Are So Good
Rent is (I think) one of the best musicals to hit Broadway. Not only did it touch on something pretty taboo at the time, it's a great story to an even better soundtrack. For 12 years, the musical has inspired so many (including yours truly). At this year's Tony Awards, a tribute was paid to the show that rocked the stage and dared to make us to think while serenading our hearts. Here's the 5,028th performance from Rent.
If you still haven't caught it on Broadway or want to see it one last time, tickets are still available. Remember the last performance will be on Sept. 7.

Disney Lands Another Hit
Surprise, surprise! With almost 9 million (8.9 mil to be exact) viewers, Camp Rock was the big hit of the weekend. And even though it didn't beat High School Musical 2, it was still one enjoyable 2 hours of Disney Channel musical fun. Besides the pop styles of the Jonas Brothers and new pop princess Demi Lovato, there are more beats on this one with songs like "What It Takes" and "Hasta La Vista". Whether you're a singing-star-in-training or up for reliving camp memories, the show is an upbeat movie to check out.
And the movie may not have beaten HSM2, it looks like the new Jonas Brothers video is "Burnin' Up" the YouTube charts, already with more than 780,000 views.

Primal Scream's 'Urban Guerilla'
The first song I heard by Primal Scream was "Rocks", which made me fall for this band's rock and roll sound. These seasoned rockers are coming out with a new record, Beautiful Future, but before that drops, they've released a song that's free for download. Primal Scream has recently covered Hawkwind's "Urban Guerilla", and you can get to it on myfreedownload.co.uk without dropping a dime.
A fun version worth giving a listen.

Boys Like Girls Bring 'Thunder'
For all you Boys Like Girls fans, they're coming out with a new music video. Be sure to catch "Thunder" on the new MTV show F'N MTV on Friday at 8 p.m. The band is currently the road with Good Charlotte, The Maine and Metro Station for The Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour.
Covers by the Camp Rock Kids
Alyson Stoner takes a break from the choreography to cover Baby It's You by Jojo.
Demi Lovato looks like she's on her way to pop stardom. Here's her rendition of That's How I Know sung by Amy Adams in Enchanted.
Did you ever hear the pipes on Anna Maria Perez de Tagle? (Woo! Say that three times fast.) She puts her vocal soul into I Am Changing orginally sung by Jennifer Holliday then Jennifer Hudson in the remake.

From Popstar to Call Girl
Secret Diary of a Call Girl premiered on Showtime last night, but it wasn't the show itself that caught my attention but the girl playing Belle (the main character).
In the late 90s, Billie Piper broke into music with her song, "Because We Want To". (This jogging your memory yet?)
Releasing three albums from 1999-2005, Piper put her music to the side see if acting was more her forte. And it really took off. She's been on the stage, the silver screen and the tube — most notably Dr. Who.
You can catch Secret Diary of a Call Girl on Showtime Mondays at 10:30 p.m. Let's see if this strip-teasing-sitcom gives Piper a smooth crossover onto American soil.

'Viva La Vida' Goes Platinum in 3 Days
You definitely read that right. According to the Official U.K. Charts Company, Coldplay's Viva La Vida will debut at the top spot on the UK Album Chart this week. But what's more interesting is that it's already sold over 300,000 units since it dropped on June 12. It looks like it's well on its way to becoming one of Britain's best-selling albums Hopefully it'll spark the same success on American soil — I don't think that's too far from reality.
So remember to pick up your copy tomorrow!

Katy's Finally Out
...with her album, One of the Boys. (Geez, what were you guys thinking? Anyway, if you're looking into some new sounds for the summer, Katy Perry's new record, out tomorrow.
You may know her for singing about cherry chapstick and lip-locking with another girl, but don't think it's all about that. The album shows many sides of this singer-songwriter. She pushes the envelope with "Ur So Gay" — hating on a metrosexual ex who doesn't like boys (though the song title may beg to differ). Then there's the upbeat pop track "Hot N Cold" that makes you dance while thinking about the ups and downs of a relationship. "One of the Boys" is probably my favorite song on the album — just for its sheer honesty. Besides, I can totally relate to just about every word on that tune. Although the critics may be on the fence about Katy's One of the Boys, it's an album that should be given at least one listen.
And in case you're in the Hollywood area, you can meet her and catch a performance. Here are the details...

Coldplay Tour Temporarily on Hold
Unfortunately the Coldplay dates I posted earlier last month have been pushed two weeks. According to the band's Web site, there are production delays and can't make the proposed June 29 show. The kick off date will now be July 14, and the final show will still be on Aug. 4 in Boston instead of Chicago. Refunds will be issued for tickets to the old dates, and for more info on the show, check out Coldplay.com.
Panic Unplugs The Band and More
Panic at the Disco brings in The Band during their AOL acoustic session with The Weight.
David Cook with his old band Axium bring Radiohead to the stage that night with Creep.

M&M v. ACDC Battle Showdown
Like they promised, Miley and Mandy posted their final dance battle video, and here it is. Enjoy!
These two really put out all the stops on this one. With lots of celebs and crazy crews, this video also shows what Miss Miley can do on the floor. Do we have the makings of a b-girl on our hands? And even though it say final battle, the ending shows that ACDC don't look like they'll be backing down anytime soon.

Missy's Summer 'Block Party'
Back in February, I posted that Missy's new album will drop in May, but it's already June and still nothing. But Billboard has confirmed that Missy is looking toward an August release. Titled Block Party, the song will feature a bunch of new dance tracks and will reunite Missy with Timbaland. Missy always delivers great beats and tracks to shake your pom pom to; so it's an album to look out for.
But for those of you who want a Missy fix, pick up a copy of this week's issue of Billboard.

M&M Fight Back
Unless you're not into the YouTube phenom, then you probably missed this ongoing dance battle between Miley Cyrus and her gal pal Mandy Jiroux and Step Up 2's Jon M. Chu and Adam Sevani.
Who do you think did better?
M&M Cru with a U on April 13
ACDC on April 30
After this ridiculously sick dance video by ACDC, M&M will be stepping it up tonight with a major YouTube dance video drop at 7 p.m. PST. It looks like these two really need to bring it because I can't help but side with Chu and Sevani -- Jabbawockeez, Hok and Lacey from last season's So You Think You Can Dance, Chris Brown, Adam Sandler, Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan all in one video? We'll just have to tune in tonight.
If you want to catch up with the action, check this out.

Live From Abbey Road is Back
If you loved the first season, Live From Abbey Road will be even better in season two. Set in one of the most historic studios, this season will feature the likes of Kate Nash, The Hossiers, Mary J. Blige and Panic at the Disco (who recorded tracks for Pretty. Odd. in that same studio). The new season kicks off on June 12 on the Sundance Channel. So make sure to set those Tivos.
Katy Perry Drops by The Young and the Restless
Katy Perry has put down her mic for a hot minute to stop by CBS' The Young and the Restless to show off her acting skills. CBS even put out a little behind-the-scenes look on the set. You can catch that episode on CBS at 12:30 p.m. EST.
She's also posted her new album, One of the Boys, on her MySpace for our listening pleasure.

Converse Rocks Out with its Own Birthday Song
In honor of Converse's 100th Birthday, Pharrell Williams, N.E.R.D. and New York's own Santogold and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas have collaborated on My Drive Thru, which will be available for free download tomorrow on converse.com.
"I've always wanted to work with Julian and I'm a big fan of The Strokes. Santogold is super-talented and she cares about music so much that it's not just about sound, it's a visual aesthetic," said Pharrell Williams, the track's producer, in a statement. "Working together on original music that crossed all of our inspirations was completely refreshing and I love the track. As for partnering with Converse, I only wear and support the things that I like. The Chuck Taylor is the golden goose egg."
It's already been getting interesting reviews; so I highly suggest you check it out.
And don't forget N.E.R.D.'s new album, Seeing Sounds drops tomorrow, too.

This is definitely not for those who are offended easily ૼ it is pretty bad.

'Emo: The Movie'
In a story I posted earlier this month, the UK's My Chemical Romance fans picketed the Daily Mail on May 31 because of the negative coverage the newspaper gave about emo music.
AudioJunkies.net decided to catch the action and produce a film doc on the event, which you can catch on YouTube or on their site. Here's a preview of the film.

Jessica Simpson Makes Mark on Country Chart
They said she looked to sexy for the Christian music and maybe she could hack it in the Country world. But Jessica Simpson has hit Billboard's Hot Country Songs at #41 with Come On Over. It's a pretty catch tune, and it's pretty nice to not have to hear her belt the hell out of something like on all those power ballads. But do will this and her forthcoming album have the power to beat Country's current princess, Carrie Underwood?

The Love Guru Covers Steve Miller Band
The Love Guru won't be in theaters until June 20, but here's a sneak peak at the movie's soundtrack (out on June 17). You know how much I love a good cover, and not to say this is one of the best, but it's definitely hilarious. The Love Guru (played by Mike Myers) exercises his pipes with a Bhangra-inspired version of blues rockers Steve Miller Band's The Joker.
If you like what you hear, the soundtrack also features Big Boi, Cornershop and Celine Dion (who JT's character is obsessed with in the film).
It also looks like the Love Guru has also dabbled gone beyond the cinema and recording studio.
His own book club...
...as well as the personal care industry
And in case you can't get yourself to Hallmark before Father's Day or a birthday, you can hit up The Love Guru for a nice greeting that's perfect for every occasion.

Carrie Underwood Turns Gamer?
Not quite. Idol winner and country's pop princess Carrie Underwood shows off her love for man's best friend on Nintendogs in one of this year's new line of commercials for the Nintendo DS Lite.
Showing off a metallic pink DS Lite, Underwood has joined a long list of stars including America Ferrera, Liv Tyler, Nicole Kidman, Julie Walters and Patrick Stewart, who have been endorsing the slim and sleek hand-helds.
Wonder who we'll see next sporting the latest DS Lite?

Ode to Bo
Here are some memorable covers of the rock and roll pioneer's music.
Buddy Holly put his twist on Bo Diddley.
At the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival, Eric Clapton and Robbie Robertson tore up the stage with Who Do You Love?.
Bo Diddley may have been before Paolo Nutini's time, but that didn't stop this Scottish crooner from playing Can't Judge a Book Its Cover.

Live From Anfield
Like I mentioned on Friday, Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney rocked the stage on Sunday night with live renditions of McCartney's music (the Beatles era and the solo years). The Zutons and Kaiser Chiefs were also on hand to put their musical talents on stage for all to see. Sir Paul paid homage to his late bandmates John and George with both ex-Beatles' wives watching in the audience. It was definitely a touching night. The performance not only make all the concert goers that night but also brought me back to the times I first heard these songs.

Goodbye to a Legend
Rock 'n' roll legend Bo Diddley died of heart failure today in his home in Archer, Fla. He was 79.
Known for his rectangular guitar (shown above), Bo Diddley became iconic and pioneers in American rock 'n' roll by creating the Bo Diddley beat — a beat similar to hambone. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the seventh annual Rhythm and Blues Foundation Pioneer Awards in 1996. He has inspired the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Guns N' Roses, White Stripes, David Bowie and Tom Petty.
He will definitely be missed. And if you haven't heard of him, listen to these tracks.

One Night Only Revamps 'You and Me'
Now that the indie Helmsley boys are blowing up across the pond, it's no surprise they've decide to redo their video for You and Me. Opposed to their black-and-white-good-times-at-home feel, One Night Only look a bit more grown up with a more formal yet fashionable style opposed to their t-shirts and jeans in the first video. And the bar fight doesn't hurt much either.
2008 MTV Movie Awards
You may have caught last night's 2008 MTV Movie Awards for lots of reasons. Perhaps it was the Mike Myers-Chris Brown dance battle. Or maybe you wanted to see the ABDC winners Jabbawockeez heat up the stage with the Pussycat Dolls. Or even the blast from the past visit from Wayne's World duo Wayne and Garth. But for me, it was all about Coldplay.

In case, you've been living under a rock, their Viva La Vida is out on June 17. And if you want to catch the last night's awards show in its entirety, hop over to MTV.

McFly is Back with 'One for the Radio'
These boys are back and paid a visit to the BBC Switch with Nick Grimshaw earlier this evening to debut their new single, One for the Radio (which you can hear below) and take part in some sumo sparring.
It's been a busy time for McFly — trying their Rock Band skills at The Sun, parting ways with Island Records and starting their own venture, Super Records. I guess you can say the band has gone indie, and hopefully with Radioactive, the new album, set to release on July 21 in the UK and Ireland. According to some reports, there's a chance they'll be following in Radiohead's footsteps and let the fans decide how much to pay for Radioactive. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
UK's MCR Fans Fight Back
My Chemical Romance fans gathered at London's Marble Arch to protest the Daily Mail for its coverage of emo music. This follows the tragic death of 13-year-old Hannah Bond, which My Chemical Romance's dark music was blamed for. This, of course, didn't sit well with the band's fans and the battle began. Here are some clips of what yesterday's protest was like.
If you're still not sure what the Daily Mail's role is in all this, take a look at these articles.
